Kashalah Robinson |ContributorThe first Jaguar Leadership Luncheon of the semester took place on Jan. 30 in the JSAC Ballroom. The luncheon provided free lunch to the first 75 students who attended and gave them the chance to hear inspirational success stories of local and abroad speakers. This luncheon’s speaker was Dr. Valera Hudson, pediatrician-in-chief at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. She has more than 27 years in schooling and practiced for 40 years. Hudson spoke about her past and how she managed to get where she is today.Throughout her session, she gave many easy-to-follow steps for monitoring our lives and controlling our time. She explained the importance of properly investing time and what “time robbers” can interfere with the path to success. Her tips on time management were the most impactful part of the presentation for me. She explained Covey’s Quadrant, which organizes personal priorities on two scales: urgency and importance. Those that are urgent and important should get the most of our attention and time, while those that are not should get the least. Surprisingly, people spend a lot of time in things that fall in the latter category, like social media and Netflix.Catch the next Leadership Luncheon Feb. 12 at noon in the JSAC Ballroom with guest speaker Terra Carroll, President/CEO of the North Augusta Chamber.
