'Come find the remedy to your Fever' at the first ASA date auction

IMG_8550By Kashalah Robinson|ContributorIs February creeping on you and you still don’t have a special someone to spend it with? Let ASA’s date auction save you.February’s the shortest month of the year, but a very admired one because it houses the most love felt holiday, Valentine’s Day. For some, this is a highly anticipated day to spend with that special someone, but for others, it’s a dread because there is no one to celebrate with. Well, the African Student Association (ASA) has the answer for those who are dateless this year; a date auction.“It’s just a fun event and something different to bring to campus,” said Boluwatife Olaofe, president of ASA. “I try to make ASA events different from other events on campus.”The first annual date auction will be taking place Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in the JSAC Ballroom. Bidders will be able to convert their real money into ASA dollars ($1 = $100 ASA dollars). Each contestant will have their own intro music, along with a bio slide. There will be on stage questions so those in the audience will get a chance to really see who they may have the chance to take on a date.Bidding will start at $300 ASA dollars and the highest bidder will have a chance to take out their new date. After the bidding, don’t be afraid to take your new date out. ASA will be hosting a group date for the contestants and their dates. There is a $2 admission fee and $10 for those interested in the VIP section, which will include front-row seating and food.ASA was created two years ago by a small group of friends. After noticing lots of other campuses have similar clubs, they decided to bring one to Augusta University. The club provides information and activities inspired by the African culture, but it is not limited to just Africans and anyone is open to join. For more information about the date auction or about ASA, contact Boluwatife Olaofe.ASA Date Auction Promotion Video: ASA Date Auction Promotion Video. Contact Kashalah Robinson at kasrobinson@augusta.edu
