AU men's XC team heads to NCAA Division II championship

Staff Report |The Augusta University men's cross country team, fresh off a third-place finish in the NCAA Southeast Regional, will compete in the nationals on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Pittsburgh.Coach Adam Ward, who was named Southeast Regional coach of the year, hopes his team can improve on last year's results in the nationals."We finished 23rd last year," he said on Nov. 27 before a practice at the Academy of Richmond County track. "Our goal this weekend is top-20."The Jaguars are led by sophomore Hunter Kimball, senior Noah Hulett and sophomore Jacob Poston, all of whom will have a chance at all-America honors on Saturday.The race will be on a 10-kilometer course that Ward described as being hilly but similar to what AU faced in the regional at North Georgia. Temps are expected to be in the 40s with a chance of rain.After a final practice at the Academy of Richmond Academy track, the Jaguars flew to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Nov. 28, to take part in the championship week events.
