ZTA has 200 participate in 5K race

By Madison Bradley |ContributorZeta Tau Alpha sorority held its second annual Run of Hope five-kilometer race on Saturday, Oct. 6, starting outside of Christenberry Fieldhouse.The event supported the sorority's philanthropy, Breast Cancer Education & Awareness, and the proceeds from the 5K race were donated to this cause.This is a unique event that allows members of the community to come together and race for a special cause. All together there were around 200 people from the community who took part of the race. The total amount raised was close to $10,000 and some of the leading sponsors were KAMO, Oconee Foundations, Ocozzio Advisors and Uptown Cheapskate.The philanthropy director for ZTA is Sydney Davis. She said she has a passion for this cause because her aunt had breast cancer twice and survived it.“Being able to witness her courage and perseverance throughout her treatment process was inspirational and made me want to get involved,” Davis said.The Run of Hope 5K not only unites the community but also strives to bring awareness to such an important cause. Today, one-in-eight women are at risk of getting breast cancer sometime in their lifetime.“ZTA’s mission is to take one in eight and make it none in eight," Davis said.
