Augusta attorney Hudson to speak on Constitution Day

Staff report |An Augusta attorney will speak to students at Augusta University at noon on Monday, Sept. 17, about the importance of the First Amendment.David E. Hudson, who is general counsel for the Georgia Press Association, will speak about major bulwarks for the press in the First Amendment and what are the threats to freedom of expression. An attorney for Hull Barrett in Augusta, Hudson will also try to answer the question what is reliable news today. He will also speak on the basic tenets of open records and meetings law in Georgia.Hudson is a former adjunct professor at AU, where he taught media law. He received his undergraduate degree in history and political science from Mercer University and his law degree from Harvard University.The event is sponsored by AU’s Department of Communication and the AU Student Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. It is part of the university’s Constitution Day celebration.The talk will be held in the Hardy Room of the Jaguar Student Activities Center (room 232). Pizza and soft drinks will be served.AU SPJ President Zhenya Townley will introduce Hudson.
