Auditions for spring and fall productions underway

By Ashlee Cooper |Staff writerThe communications department kicked off its 2018-2019 production season with open auditions on Aug. 28 and 29.Auditions were held in Washington Hall from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Students did open readings while the directors offered constructive comments throughout students’ auditions.Both nights resulted in an excellent turnout from the students and raised the already high level of optimism from the directors, especially director and assistant professor Melanie O’Meara.“I am very excited!” exclaimed director O’Meara about her feelings towards the upcoming production year.She also stated, "Doug Joiner, the other director, is directing two plays and a musical with Mark Swanson. I believe we have a lot to offer this semester and next semester, especially with this great turnout.”More auditions and rehearsals are expected to begin soon, for the fall semester productions. This semester will consist of two productions.The first production is Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan and will be directed by Professor Douglas Joiner. The performance dates are Nov. 8 and Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.The second production is The Amish Project by Jessica Dickey and will also be directed by Joiner. The dates for this production are Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 11. at 3:00 p.m.There are two more productions planned for the spring semester. The first production is Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail by Louise Shivers. It will be adapted and directed by Joiner and Swanson. Performances are Jan. 24 through Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.The second production is Moving Photographs: A Vanishing Georgia, which is written, adapted, and directed by O’Meara. Performances will be held on Thursday.
