Whiskey Bar an inviting watering hole on Broad Street

By Jacob Boland |ContributorSo downtown Augusta has a history of amazing stores and restaurants having a great opening, but within a year they shutter.Whiskey Bar is that anomaly where it has been able to persevere throughout that rough first year to become downtown Augusta’s goose that laid the golden egg. Whiskey Bar is an inviting bar and grill on Broad Street, tucked between the always popular Metro Coffeehouse and Soy Noodle-house.The restaurant features an assortment of meals including burgers, salads, Mongolian beef bowls, and more. Added on to that is its variety of beer with over a dozen drinks on draft and a rotating roster of craft and import beers. The service is always fast and you never have to worry about any of the staff hiding when you need that refill. Whiskey Bar has two giant TV sets that are set to sports, so the bar section usually has a few regulars sitting down. What makes Whiskey Bar special compared to, say, any other bar and grill downtown is it’s at the perfect geographic location of foot traffic on Broad Street. Both Metro and Whiskey Bar encourage outdoor seating and no reservation service. This means you can walk into Whiskey Bar at most times of the day and expect to get at least some seat. The atmosphere inside is well lit and generally inviting, not being too loud or featuring a bad layout like many older buildings downtown. Everything is open and warm, which subtly puts you in the mood for a nice meal.If you plan to eat at Whiskey Bar, the best times to go is before the lunch rush and then after anytime in the early afternoon.Whiskey Bar is located at 1048 Broad Street and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. most weekdays. Saturday from 11 a.m. until midnight. Sunday they open from noon until 10 p.m. The phone number to reach them is (706) 814-6159.
