The COVID Report with David Blake: Update on infection

Thursday, Aug. 13

Today we will look over the percent newly infected, in the last 10 days, in different regions, and the Rt (rate of transmission) in US states.

First, the national picture, using the O-zone plot, which shows every state except Hawaii. The three day history is shown with each state with faint lettering.

The summer wave states are all clustered close to 1 percent currently infected, and right now Georgia is second highest.

I mentioned Hawaii, so how does it stand?

Well, they lifted some restrictions, and things got out of control pretty quickly. They have re-instituted restrictions, but the new restrictions have not taken hold yet.  Their Rt is greater than 1.5, and they are off the top of the O-zone plot.

And let’s now turn our eyes to some of our local area counties.

Most local areas are showing growth with Rt around 1.2, so you can use their percent infected and see where they would fall on the O-zone plot.

We (CSRA) have a high level of infection and slow growth of infection.
