Jenna Ingalls |Staff writerA number of Richmond County Marshal Ramone Lamkin’s campaign signs were vandalized on May 19.Lamkin is running for re-election in Richmond County, and a number of his campaign signs were sliced in half or taken down.The culprit is unknown at this time. However, Lamkin shared that the individual left blood on one of the signs. Lamkin said tests are being run to determine who vandalized the signs.Because of Covoid-19, Lamkin said he is no longer able to campaign in a traditional way.“We’re relying on signage and social media,” said Lamkin in reference to this campaign.This campaign season has lost the in personal, face-to-face element, so signs have been one of the key ways to inform people.“We just have to stay out there,” said Lamkin.Though initially disappointed, Lamkin said he was not discouraged after seeing the signs.The signs are being repaired and replaced, said Lamkin.The destruction of these signs can leave someone with misdemeanor charges of theft and destruction of property if the signs were placed on private property, according to the 2018 Georgia Code.Richmond County advanced voting, which started on May 18, ends on June 5, and the General Primary Election Day is June 9.“Signs don’t vote; people do,” Lamkin said.
